Cultivating Gratitude in a Time of Turmoil
Make Thanksgiving Day this year more than a big meal. Take some time to reflect on what you genuinely have to be grateful for and how to keep that awareness at the center of your life. The day will be led by Fr. Tom Ryan, author of numerous books on a wide variety of topics related to the spiritual life. www.tomryancsp.org
There will be an hour provided for lunch; which you may bring or enjoy at one of the local restaurants.
Suggested donation: $20 and $12 for students
Prayer of Heart & Body
Meditation and yoga have gone mainstream and courses are available at many fitness or health centers. What distinguishes this one is that both are taught in a Christian context with an eye towards helping participants realize a positive integration of these practices in their Christian prayer life and spirituality. In addition to other benefits like becoming calm, relaxed, and centered, meditation (prayer of the heart) and yoga (prayer of the body) offer a way into an encounter with God in inner quietude. You’ll go home from your workday unusually relaxed and peaceful!
The practice is comprehensive, and includes chanting, breathing exercises, postures, prayerful posture flows to songprayers, deep relaxation and meditation. No experience required. The invitation is to a refreshing and powerful way of praying with the whole of your being: body, mind, heart and spirit.
Wear light, comfortable clothing. If you have a mat, bring it; if not, there are some mats available. Tuesdays: October 23-December 18, 5:45 p.m.–7:25 p.m.
